Learn to Skydive with an EPIC Skydive School in New Zealand
Ready to take flight? At Skydive Abel Tasman, we offer one of New Zealand’s most exciting and professional AFF (Accelerated Freefall) skydiving courses. Whether you’re starting a skydiving career or just want to skydive solo, our skydive school welcomes all levels with open arms.
How Our AFF Skydiving Programme Works
AFF (Accelerated Freefall) is your first step toward solo skydiving in New Zealand. It begins with a full day of Ground School, followed by nine levels of skydiving jumps, each designed to develop key parachuting skills.
-
Held every second Friday, Ground School covers skydiving equipment, safety procedures, emergency drills, body position, and canopy control. It prepares you for your first AFF jump with confidence.
-
TAFF lets you apply what you’ve learned in Ground School while attached to a Tandem Instructor. You experience the thrill of freefall and practice locating the drop zone – without flying your own parachute yet.
-
Your first three AFF jumps are performed with two instructors who assist during freefall. After parachute deployment, it’s up to you – supported by radio for canopy flight and safe landing.
-
With single-instructor supervision, these levels develop your tracking, heading control, flips, and altitude awareness. Once confident, you progress to supervised solo skydives.
-
Simulate a low-altitude emergency jump from 6000ft to round out your AFF training and build situational awareness.
Get Your A Certificate and Skydive Solo
After completing AFF, continue training towards your NZPIA A Certificate, recognized worldwide. You’ll need a minimum of 25 jumps and five coached skydives covering tracking, docks, canopy control, and more.
Flexible Pricing Options
We offer AFF and A License packages, or you can pay as you go. Packages include instruction, video, gear rental, and a skydiving logbook. Repeat jumps are additional.
How Long Does Skydiving Training Take?
While some complete AFF in a week and earn their A Certificate within three, skydiving is weather-dependent. Most students take at least a month depending on availability and conditions.
-
- All training is conducted at Skydive Abel Tasman, Motueka.
- Minimum age is 16 (with parental consent). A basic level of fitness is required.
- Weight limit: 100kg / 220lbs.
